Review & Analysis

This card is perfect for business owners, especially those who travel a great deal for their business or are looking for great rewards on shopping and leisure purchases.

Frequent Flyer Points

With the American Express Business Accelerator card owners receive two membership rewards points for every dollar spent up to $150,000, which is a great rate of points compared to some other membership programs. After $150,000 the rate reverts to one point per dollar spent, but this is reset annually. There is no cap or expiry date on points, meaning that card holders can carry on accruing points until they are ready to spend them.

These rewards points can be transferred to Membership Rewards Travel Partners with Air New Zealand, Velocity, Singapore Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, Cathay Pacific, Thai Airways and Malaysia Airlines and redeemed for flights accordingly. Points can also be accrued using any supplementary cards on the account, so when employees of the business use their cards, the points are all collected in the same place.

Other Rewards

Aside from the points you can collect, there are other rewards with this card too. Card holders get free enrolment in the Membership Rewards Choices program, giving them access to shopping discounts and gifts. Additionally, the Business Savings Program gives card holders access to great business discounts too. Card holders can even use their Membership Rewards points to pay off their balances, meaning that if they spend, they save.

Pros

This card has several advantages for the business owner. Monthly statements come with a GST breakdown meeting ATO standards for GST reporting. As well as this, statements can be downloaded directly into Quicken, MYOB or Microsoft Excel, making it even easier to insert credit card spending into the business budget. If the card is used solely for business purposes, the $160 p.a. annual fee is completely tax deductible, making it a cheaper option. Card holders who travel more for their business will find that the American Express Travel Advantage gateway, a secure portal where trips can be booked, is very useful.

As well as all these extras, the standard American Express features are also available with this card, such as global emergency card replacement, global customer service, an interest free period of up to 55 days, and a 90 day money back satisfaction guarantee.

Cons

The interest rate on this card is not as low as that on other American Express cards or competing products, but is quite reasonably priced considering the benefits.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this card, applicants must be aged 18 years or more and be a permanent resident of citizen of Australia. They must also have a good credit rating, an income of $24,000, and their business must have been running for over a year.
