Review & Analysis
The American Express Qantas Business credit card, custom designed for businesses, is a great way to earn rewards on your business expenses. And apart from getting rewarded with QFF points, this card also helps you manage your cash flow and gives you handy GST breakdowns as part of your monthly statement so tax time doesn’t have to be so taxing. For more detail on this business credit card with frequent flyer points, read on!
Frequent Flyer Points
It’s all about turning business expenses into rewards with the American Express Qantas Business credit card. Now any time you charge a flight, hotel, or other purchase to your card, you’ll get rewarded at the rate of 1 QFF point per dollar spent. If you are buying flights or other select service with Qantas, you’ll get rewarded even more with 2 QFF points per dollar. What’s more, there is no cap on the number of QFF points you can earn. Points can be redeemed for flights with Qantas or Jetstar.
Other Rewards
Like other cards on our site, the American Express Qantas Business credit card comes with complimentary travel insurance. What’s slightly more different about this policy is that it covers either domestic or international travel when purchased using your account, unlike many other cards that only offer overseas insurance.
Pros
The biggest benefit of having an Amex Qantas Business credit card is, of course, turning business expenses into Qantas Frequent Flyer points. It also helps that there is no cap on the number of points you can earn. Given the much larger expenses a business needs to pay out, any capping would seriously reduce the number of points you could get. Luckily, this just doesn’t apply to the Amex Qantas Business card.
It also makes tax time easier thanks to the GST breakdown as part of your monthly statement, which can be downloaded straight into Quicken or Microsoft Excel. There is no pre-set limit to how much you can spend, but that doesn’t mean you’ll have carte blanche to go mad. American Express will analyse your previous spending and current financial position to work out whether or not your purchases can be approved.
Complimentary domestic and international travel insurance on travel purchases using your American Express Qantas Business credit card is another welcome feature, and one that could help reduce your costs.
Cons
Although it is possible to earn unlimited QFF points with the American Express Qantas Business card, the rate at which they can be earned ($1 = 1 QFF point) isn’t as high as it could be. Some other cards such as the Amex Qantas Ultimate and NAB Qantas Platinum offer more QFF points per dollar spent. Also, you’ll need to have your own Qantas Frequent Flyer account to link with your card. However, it costs $80.50 to open an account and furthermore, many of the other cards on our site, particularly those from ANZ and NAB, will waive the fee if you open a card with them.
Another drawback is the $299 p.a. annual fee, which admittedly isn’t the most expensive compared with other cards. However, just for comparison’s sake, the Qantas American Express Discovery credit card has no annual fee and rewards spending at the same rate. You’ll also have to stump up for supplemental cards for staff, which is another expense not charged for with other cards.
Eligibility
To get an Amex Qantas Business credit card you’ll need to be an Australian citizen or permanent resident over 18 years old and with a good credit history. You’ll also need to be earning at least $24,000 and have at least one year of trading under your belt.
Is This Card Right For You?
The Qantas Amex Business credit card is a relatively straightforward, no-frills account that rewards you with QFF points. There are some additional benefits, but in reality the card is all about giving you points. If you want a card that rewards spending but also has a personal concierge and more insurance, then have a look at some of the other offers available on our site. If you want to build up your QFF points balance, bearing in mind that there is no cap with this card, then this is an offer worth looking into.
