Review & Analysis
The ANZ Platinum Frequent Flyer credit card comes with all the benefits of ANZ’s other frequent flyer products plus more extras. It is a great card for the serial traveller who is looking for even more benefits and features from their credit card spending.
Frequent Flyer Points
The ANZ Platinum Frequent Flyer credit card comes in two versions. You’ll get an American Express branded version that rewards you at a rate of 1.5 QFF points per $1 and a Visa branded ANZ Platinum Frequent Flyer credit card that is accepted at millions of locations around the world, but rewards spending at the lower rate of 1 QFF point per $2. Obviously it would be best to do as much of your regular spending using the Amex card, but as they are accepted less widely the Visa card is a useful if less rewarding fallback option.
Other Rewards
There are several rewards with the ANZ Platinum Frequent Flyer credit card. Platinum cardholders have access to exclusive offers and benefits with entré for ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum American Express and Visa Platinum Privileges for ANZ Frequent Flyer Visa Platinum. Any additional cardholders will be able to accrue points to the account when they spend on their cards too, helping to build points up more quickly.
Pros
There are many advantages to having the ANZ Platinum Frequent Flyer credit card apart from earning QFF rewarrds. For one thing, the 19.74% p.a. interest rate is very low considering the fact that this is a platinum frequent flyer card.
Cardholders also get 55 interest free days so if you can pay back your balance each month you won’t have to pay any interest. Worldwide emergency credit card replacement means you’ll get another card delivered to you anywhere in the world so that you aren’t left stranded without access to funds. 90 day purchase security insurance against loss, theft or breakage over a range of new items purchased with your ANZ Platinum Frequent Flyer credit card gives you peace of mind. You’ll also get complimentary overseas travel and medical insurance, although you should carefully examine exactly what is covered and under what circumstances before cancelling any existing travel insurance policies. The included extended warranty on new goods purchased with your card doubles that given by the manufacturer.
If you want to rack up the points faster then you can take advantage of adding up to 9 additional cardholders to the account. Finally, as with all ANZ frequent flyer cards, customers have access to Secure Sentinel, eDine, ANZ Wine Club and ANZ Car Rental Cover.
Cons
The ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum card does have its drawbacks, as to be expected, so prospective customers should weigh up the costs of the card against its benefits to see if it will be worthwhile. The main disadvantage of this particular card is its $295 p.a. annual fee, but, if the card holder redeems all the points they can, this could be countered by the savings made using the special offers and points that come with the card.
Eligibility
To be considered eligible for an ANZ Platinum Frequent Flyer credit card, applicants must be aged 18 years or more, and must be a permanent resident or citizen of Australia. Additionally, they must have an income of at least $75,000 or more and have an excellent credit rating to qualify.
Is This Card Right For You?
This card is very useful for anyone on a relatively high income who enjoys a great deal of foreign travel and leisure products, and who uses their card regularly for large purchases. It could work particularly well as a family credit card where each (trusted) family member could be given a card in order to build up your points balance faster. The annual fee is high, even for a frequent flyer card, but in the right hands it can be extremely rewarding.
