Review & Analysis
With the St.George Amplify credit card you can earn rewards with not just one, but two programs – Amplify Rewards and Amplify Qantas Rewards. This card also has a good balance transfer offer, which could make switching cards more affordable.
Frequent Flyer Points
As we’ve already touched on, the St George Amplify credit card gives you access to two different reward programs. Under the Amplify Rewards program you’ll earn 1 point per dollar spent, but if you choose Amplify Qantas Rewards you’ll be rewarded at the rate of 1 QFF point per $2 spent. Points are not capped, so you can earn as many as you like for as long as the account is open and in good standing. An additional card is available so that more spending can be rewarded. Points can be redeemed for a range of products and services through Amplify Rewards or for flights with Qantas and their partner airlines to hundreds of destinations both domestic and international.
Pros
The St.George Amplify credit card is differentiated from many of the other cards we reviewed by the fact that you can choose to earn rewards from two programs, giving you increased flexibility. As well as this, the card has a decent balance transfer offer (0.99% p.a. for 6 months), which could come in quite handy if you have an existing balance that you need to move. And while you are free to earn as many points as possible, you can use points plus pay to top up your points and get what you want faster. The 18.74% p.a. purchase rate is actually lower than many other cards we’ve reviewed and the 20.74% p.a. cash advance rate is in line with that of the average frequent flyer card on the market.
Cons
The earn rate of 1 Amplify point per dollar spent is comparable with other cards purely on the basis of points earned per dollar. However, if it’s Qantas Frequent Flyer points that you want to earn there are many other cards with higher earn rates such as the Woolworths Qantas credit card and Qantas American Express Discovery credit card. The $79 p.a. annual fee is quite low compared with some of the other cards available but in line with cards with a similar feature set, but considering the relatively low earn rate it could significantly negate the value of the rewards you’ll earn in the year.
Eligibility
As with any card, there are criteria to meet in order to be approved. For the St.George Amplify credit card you’ll need to be at least 18 years old and either a permanent resident or an Australian citizen. There’s no strict minimum income, but they will be looking for a steady weekly income at the very least.
Is This Card Right For You?
If you’re looking for a no-frills card to earn Amplify Rewards points or QFF points and you are a low earner, then take the time to consider this offer. But before you apply, compare it with other rewards cards first as there are other more attractive deals available.
