3 Steps to Frequent Flyer Points Bliss
A variety of frequent flyer miles programs are available and a couple of basic tips will help you get the most out of your points. These 3 steps will help anyone create frequent flyer point bliss.
Step One: Selecting a Program
Make sure to select a flyer point program closest to you and select the airport you will travel from most often. If you travel to many destinations, always select the program that flies to your most common destination. This will help ensure you get the maximum points for travel. Look into getting an elite or gold status when flying. These programs can earn extra points and special privileges. Check your miles as often as you check your bank account. These frequent flyer miles are just like cash and need to be checked often, as they can expire. If they expire, then they are completely wasted. If you catch them before they expire and do not have enough to use for travel, the points can usually be donated to charity or used to purchase other some items.
Step Two: Earning Miles
Always be sure to include your frequent flyer program number when booking travel. This will ensure you earn points for each time you travel. Find a frequent flyer card with reward points that you can convert into airline miles. Some credit cards are directly affiliated with many airlines and you will be able to earn extra points. These cards have certain retails stores and eateries that will earn you points toward flyer miles. Of course, these cards are convenient and earning points is great; however, do not let the joy of earning free trips cost you too much in spending. Never buy what you can’t afford, as the cost of interest can end up costing you more in the long run. Special promotions are also available where you can earn up to five times (sometimes more and sometimes less), when you shop or buy from special merchants. Some frequent flyer programs will allow other people to transfer miles or points to you (most of the time for a small fee).
Step Three: Redeeming the Points
Be flexible when booking trips using your flyer miles, as holiday and popular business destinations can be near impossible to get. Sometimes you might have to travel out of your way or book unusual flights to get a free seat. The earlier you book your flight, the better chance you have of getting free seats with your frequent flyer miles. Call the travel agent if you are looking to book an international flight, as they may have other options than what is available online. If you do not have enough miles to earn a completely free ticket, you can put money with it or some airlines will allow you to upgrade a coach ticket to a first class ticket.
