How to Earn & Redeem More Qantas Frequent Flyer Points
Qantas Frequent Flyer is the loyalty program of Australia’s national airline, Qantas. It enables travellers to earn points when flying with Qantas or its partner airlines as well as when purchasing from or using the services of Qantas' linked business partners. Points earned can be redeemed for travel or for travel upgrade when travelling with Qantas and its partner airlines.
Signing Up
A one-time joining fee of AUD$82.50 per member is required for travellers residing in Australia and NZ$50.00 per member for those residing in New Zealand. No joining fee is required for travellers residing outside of Australia and New Zealand.
Membership Levels
Once a member has signed up, he or she will become a Bronze Frequent Flyer. Qantas offers three other membership levels above Bronze membership and the higher the membership level, the better are the rewards and status privileges.
One can attain a higher membership level by accumulating status credit points. Status credit points are different from Frequent Flyer points in that they are mainly awarded to determine membership levels and can only be earned when travelling with Qantas, Oneworld alliance airlines and certain airline partners only. The three membership levels above the Bronze membership are:
- Silver Frequent Flyer membership: attained when a member earns 350 credit points and retains 300 credits points;
- Gold Frequent Flyer membership: attained when a member earns 700 credit points and retains 600 credit points;
- Platinum Frequent Flyer membership: attained when a member earns 1,400 credit points and retains 1,200 credit points.
Membership levels are important as the higher the membership level, the more bonus points are awarded. For example, a Silver member can earn 25 per cent more points than the economy rate and a Gold member can earn 50 per cent more points, while a Platinum member can earn 100 per cent more points.
