How to Earn & Redeem More Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Points
KrisFlyer is the frequent flyer program of Singapore Airlines and Silk Air, and has many commercial partnerships, both within the airline and travel industry, and outside of it.
First and foremost, Singapore Airlines is within the Star Alliance, the largest alliance of airlines in the world, and KrisFlyer points can be both earned and redeemed within the entire Star Alliance system. Singapore Airlines has also partnered with a stunning international array of hotels, the two foremost car rental agencies, three telecommunications firms, over a dozen international banks, and other companies specialising in particular travel services, such as cruises and tours, the use of which can all earn KrisFlyer points.
How to Begin Earning KrisFlyer Points
Anyone over the age of 2 years old is eligible to earn KrisFlyer Points, except where may be prohibited by law. Points may be earned by flying on Singapore Airlines, or any of airlines in the Star Alliance Partnership. Points may also be earned by staying with hotel partners, frequenting car rental partners, telecommunications partners, and other merchants and credit card issuers who have partnered with Singapore Airlines to make traveling not only relaxing, but rewarding. You can apply for a KrisFlyer linked credit card and earn points as you make purchases with the card.
Points Earned on Airline Miles
Flying on Singapore Airlines, or any one of the Star Alliance partner airlines, is always an experience of hospitality, ease, and punctuality, but now it is even more rewarding than ever. Standard Economy flights earn 100% of the miles flown - fly 1,000 miles, get 1,000 KrisFlyer points - and it only gets better from there. Business Class flights earn 125% of the miles flown, First Class flights earn 150% of the miles flown, and when flying Singapore Airline Suites 300% of the miles flown become earned KrisFlyer points; fly 1,000 miles, get 3,000 points.
Points Earned on Hotels and Car Rentals
Many different chains and families of hotels are affiliated with Singapore Airlines, and the number of points earned per stay vary, depending on the hotel. Many hotels offer 500 points per stay. Among the list of distinguished lodgings include The Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott, Okura, and Taj. Avis and Hertz are the car rentals partners, and all rentals therein accrue points dependent on whether the travel is for business or pleasure. The earning rate ranges from 250-500 points for car rentals.
Points Earned with Credit Cards and Other Merchants
Singapore Airlines has partnered with a wide variety of international banks in order to bring credit cards that can be used to earn frequent flyer miles. American Express, Citibank, HSBC, and Westpac are just a few off such a list. Many such credit cards offer a bonus of up to 10,000 points as a thank you gift for obtaining the card, in addition to the miles earned for dollars spent. Miles can also be earned by using M1, 3, Travelling Connect, CruiseEscapes, or with Club21, Ctrip, Shell, Tradewinds, or Hong Leong Finance. The number of points earned for each transaction is unique.
How to Redeem Points
All KrisFlyer Points can be redeemed and turned into flights and upgrades not only on Singapore Airlines and Silk Air, but also on all airlines in the Star Alliance partnership. Going online is the simplest and easiest way to redeem KrisFlyer points, whether it is to obtain a one-way or roundtrip flight, to upgrade flights. To redeem entire flights, simply login and click on 'Online Redemption Booking.' To upgrade a flight, login and click on 'My Bookings.'
In order to redeem points with airlines in the Star Alliance partnership, it is best either to call Membership Services or to fax in a Reservation Request Form.
